Head-On MVC on Highway 5

 At 2118 hours on Monday, May 8th units were dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Collision (MVC) at 17282 Highway 5.  E 12 – 22 was the first unit on the scene and found a two vehicle MVC.  One of the vehicles had left the roadway and turned on its side.  One patient was found and required stabilization and transport to the hospital.  The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries but refused medical aid. SBFPD units were placed in service to assist, address the highway hazards, and assist law enforcement with traffic control.  The situation was placed under control shortly after the arrival of our units.  Not only did the staffed company respond, several of our volunteers members responded to the scene and provide great assistance to the operation.

The More you Sweat in Training…

On March the 29th Chief Reilly conducted SCBA skills training for the members of the SBFPD.  The Chief, a firm believer in providing challenging training to meet the needs of the mission, lead several exercises aimed at enhancing the confidence & the abilities of our members in using SCBA.  The exercises included a Vent, Enter Search exercise a long distance Mall Walk, and a Buddy Breathing drill. One of the Chief’s favorites called the Ant Farm involved a series of ladder climbs starting with a first story window and ending up in a roof assent using the one of the District’s aerial apparatus. 

The feedback from the members who took part was very positive.  Chief Reilly states that “We are fortunate to have a motivated group of personnel, volunteer & career, who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard.  I was very pleased with the training and think that it will help keep our people prepared and focused for what they might be called on to do.”

Cub Scouts Visit Station 1

On Wednesday March 6th, Cub Scout Pack #38 came to visit Fire Station 1.  The A Platoon gave the Scouts a tour of the station and equipment.  After the tour the members set up “fire engine bowling” for the scouts to enjoy. This gave the scouts a chance to see some of our equipment in use.  Hopefully we were able to interest some of them in maybe pursuing the fire service when they get a little bit older.

    The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District will be conducting fire hydrant testing starting April 15th thru June 15th, 2012 in the following areas: Porto Cima, The Villages and the Village of Sunrise Beach. Chief’s Swearing In

 On Wednesday 14 March a swearing in ceremony was held for the new Fire Chief of the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District, Dennis Reilly.  Chief Reilly was joined by members of the District along with local dignitaries as the oath of office was administered by the District’s legal counsel, Tom Loraine.  In addition several special guests joined Chief Reilly to include his wife Ann, his sister and brother-in-law Peggy & Don Nogawhich of Patchogue New York, and close friends Stuart & Laurie Stancil of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The Chief was also joined by Battalion Chief Montrell Haldeman of the Cherry Hill, New Jersey Fire Department.  Chief Haldeman had previously worked under Chief Reilly and his presence was greatly appreciated.

2nd Alarm in the Southwest Fire District

At 2356 hours on Wednesday March 7th, The Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District was requested to supply mutual aid for the Southwest Fire Protection District in the Mack’s Creek section of their District.  The Southwest units were operating a working fire in a commercial property.  Water supply was an issue so the SBFPD provided 2 tankers to assist with the operations.  Due to the advanced stage of the fire, the operation went defensive and the Sunrise Beach tankers engaged in an extensive water shuttle operation.  Units from the SBFPD remained well into the morning with the last of our units returning to the District at 0304 hours.

Sunrise Beach Units Part of Task Force Assignment for Tornado Response

E 12-21 and FM 1205 responded as part of a rescue task force to Buffalo Missouri on 29 February.  Units were alerted at 0116 hours and responded to the Mid County Fire Protection District Headquarters.  From there, the units under the command of Chief Frandsen, traveled to Lebanon, Missouri. With their services not needed in Lebanon, the task force was redeployed to Buffalo.  On arrival, the task force was assigned to search & rescue operations in a trailer park that sustained extensive damage.   After approximately 6 hours the units determined that no other victims were found and the resources returned to Sunrise Beach.
