SBFPD units remain on the scene to assist the Highway Patrol with traffic control.
We would like to remind everyone that seat belts can save lives. Use caution, obey the posted speed limits and always wear your seat belt.
Less than 24 hours after the District responded to working dwelling on Osage Place, Sunrise Beach units were alerted for a natural cover fire endangering structures. Within a minute of the initial dispatch, the communications center advised that they had received a report that the dwelling was now involved. As unties crossed the Hurricane Deck bridge they observed a large dwelling well involved in fire. Engine 12 – 22 and Car 1 arrived and confirmed the working fire, added additional units from Mid County, Gravois, & Northwest, and then went to working placing heavy water lines in service.
After a hard battle that involved several units to include a fire boat from Mid County, the fire was placed under control. Although the building of origin was a complete loss, the aggressive efforts of all units on scene resulted in the damage being limited to that dwelling. Chief Reilly is quoted as saying “There certainly was the potential of the fire spreading from the original dwelling and if it was not for the hard work of our units and the other Districts that assisted us things could have been much worse. I feel very bad for the people who lost their home and wish we could have stopped the fire sooner, but this was a case where there was just too much fire when we arrived to do more than what we did.”
At 10:12 hours on Thursday 8 November, Sunrise Beach units were dispatched to a report of the dwelling fire on Rain Drop Drive. As the units were turning out, the Camden County Dispatch Center advised that they were receiving reports of a dwelling well involved. Mutual Aid was requested from Lake Ozark, Gravois, and the Mid – County Fire Districts.
On September 28th, 2012, Chaplain Steve Myers, took a series of pictures of a multi-agency training. Firefighters from Sunrise Beach and Southwest Fire joined together in strength by numbers to exercise fire suppression tactics and primary search and rescue techniques.
After more than 40 years in the fire service, ten of which were here at Sunrise Beach, Captain Don Zolecki has decided to move on. One of the senior members of our staff, Captain Z has been involved with many significant projects and has provided guidance and wisdom to many of our members. We were lucky to have Don on our staff and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
Now that the staffed company has settled into the new Fire Station 2, the personnel have begun working on the landscaping projects to finish off the station. The Fire District wants to make sure that the Station’s appearance adds to the neighborhood and demonstrates the pride that we have in our organization.
